Oulton Park Gold Cup

This meeting was always going to be the highlight of the teams Formula 3 season.

Martyn has a lot of experience at the challenging Cheshire circuit, having been a front runner in the BRSCC's champion of Oulton Park series for a number of years. The team are lying in a strong second place in the classic formula 3 championship, although it has to be said that leader Neil Dunkel has been a dominant force this year.

Martyn has had a string of runners up positions, unfortunately each time following Neil home and we've been looking for those elusive 10ths to get him onto the ultimate pace. Hopes were running high for Oulton as Martyn beat Neil at this venue last year.

Initially testing on Saturday did not go well with the car shearing  a drive shaft 5 laps into the first session.  Drive train duly repaired, the rest of the days testing was inconclusive due to wet weather conditions.

Qualifying on Monday put Neil on pole with martyn alongside less than a tenth a second adrift.  The cars were held for a long time on the grid which proved ultimately to be to our advantage.  Neil led from the start and unfortunately a Formula 2 car got between Martyn into Old Hall.  At the start of the second lap Martyn emerged from Deer Leap in second place and Neils car was smoking as it passed the pits.  On the third tour Martyn was in a strong lead, Neils motor having expired due to overheating on the longstanding grid.

The next 7 laps seemed to last a lifetime as Martyns class lead increased and only mechanical failure could cost us the win.  The car held together though and we came away from Oulton with the result we wanted - Gold Cup Winners!
